Earning Their Way to State

The Elkettes earn their way to the first round of playoffs.

The Elkettes are District 4A-2 Champions with a record of 13-3 this season going into the first round of State Playoffs.

They faced the Lady Tornadoes, 2018 State Semi-finalists, for their season opener on March 5 and tied the game 2-2. Then during overtime came up short in a penalty shootout and lost 3-2. It is possible for the Elkettes to face them one more time in the third round of State Playoffs.

The team has had a successful season with a nine-game winning streak, scoring 40 goals in nine games and conceding only two.

“I feel like the season is going super good, starting to work better together as a team,” said team manager, junior Anahi Garcia.

The team hosted senior night, which was their first district game, on Tuesday, April 2 against Woodward and won 1-0 with a goal from junior Rossy Garcia.

“It’s sad knowing it’s my last year and knowing that I won’t ever play with this team ever again, but it pushes the other seniors and me to work harder to win every game and to not give up,” said Senior Vanessa Loera.

Winning all of their district games and becoming district champs has given them a secure spot in the playoffs.  They will be facing Ada for the first round on April 26 at 6:00 p.m.

“It’s pretty cool and exciting! This is the first time we have been district champs since I started playing soccer. Me being a senior makes it even more special because I won’t ever get to experience it again,” said senior Hope Butler.
