The Elk City soccer team kicked off their season as they faced the Clinton Tornadoes on Tuesday, March 5.

“Unfortunately we didn’t win our season opener against Clinton, but we did use this game to learn from our mistakes. So, we can fix them at practice and have a successful season,” said team forward, Alex Ramirez.

The Elks watched film and spotted all of their mistakes and then went out to the fields to fix those mistakes and prepare for their next game. On Thursday, March 7, the Elks took on the Elgin Owls and won that game 2-0.

“We did so good that night, because we were communicating good and passing the ball and so much more. If we keep that up we will have a great season,” said team Co-Captain Ben Henderson.

Elk City played Cordell on Monday, March 11, and played Altus the next day. They won both games 2-0.

On Friday,  March 15, the Elks take on the Cache Bulldogs in Elgin. The last time the Elks played the Bulldogs was last year on the second round of the playoffs with the Elks winning 2-1 moving onto the next round.

In addition to playing on the field, on home game days, the team goes to the elementary school. Each player on the team will visit a classroom and reward a student with a free ticket to go watch the game. They hang out with the students while they are waiting for their parents after school.
